About a Stuffy Nose, Sunrise, and a Book Review

It is winter. That means cold. That means viruses. And if your child appears in any daycare building… Do you know what daycare truly is? It is a biohazard area where every kind of sickness dwells like a mythological beast. And it jumps on your child. And then on you. It feasts. And it attacks every other human being around.

We, as a family, were planning a big trip. Enjoy some time on a train, watch snow falling behind the window, visit some relatives, eat an unhealthy amount of snacks …

Of course, only 20 hours before packing and leaving for the trip … It was here … “Mum, I don’t feel so well … my throat hurts …”
This was, naturally, accompanied with the typical sounds of a nose full of nasal discharge.
The trip was canceled. Grandma stuffed the groceries she bought for us for that weekend into her freezer and wished us to get well soon in a sad and understanding voice. And so our weekend started. Nights filled with child cough, measuring the medicine drops and temperature …

It was the third night since the sickness started. Me and my son did not sleep much. He coughed at least two times every minute. Maybe we closed our eyes for a while. But I am sure we were awake together almost all the time of the darkness. And as the horizon turned pink and diluted the deep blue of the night, my poor weary little kid started to explain to me why the sun is rising. All the stuff about planet Earth revolving around the sun he knows.

We cuddled. He coughed. We blew his nose. And my phone buzzed. I got an email from Booksprout that my novel, Withered Petals, got a new review. And it was a great review. Look:

Withered petals is a fantastic compelling and harrowing novel that not only makes us look at the part the past plays in our lives but what the people in our life’s play in the past. Tho this is a ghost story the true monsters are people and their long held views.

I highly recommend this book to horror fans and history lovers.

Sean Northage on Withered Petals

Sean Northage, thank you again. I have no idea who you are. But your review truly made that day much easier.

A side note: I do love winter. I love the subtle smell of snow and the glitter of the sun on the smooth white surface of snowy fields. But the recent years as parents of little kids truly made winter much less enjoyable 😀
